Meet Gurpreet

Hey, dudes! I go by Gup since I was given a long, hard to pronounce for most people name. Up for anything (except dancing in public or going anywhere near cockroaches.. dem nasty little critters), very expressive, my highs leave my spirit soaring and my lows are an eyesore but I always try to live in the moment and seize the day. I call me a flexible, free-spirited person while some people see the same thing and call me ‘cincai’. The difference in perceptions such as this fascinates me. Observe, contemplate, and jump into action – basically how I live.

OK supposed to be "Where Are You Based" but..yeah, this happened. Okay, moving on! I'm stay-at-home Johorean who will be voyaging through the wilderness of the PLUS Highway to move to the bright lights of Kuala Lumpur come September.

Soon I shall be a full-fledged Law student battling assignments, tutorials and enriching my mind in my beloved University Malaya. In addition to that, I’m working on getting lots of money to fund my wanderlust. I would love to travel the world and expand my horizons while I’m still an able bodied, independent physically and mentally 20-something year old.

I have such diverse and varied fields of interest sometimes it makes little sense. I’m an avid reader who loves all things Historical and issues that really get the gears in my brain clunking and grinding, I write every now and then, and when the mood comes by I make an attempt draw the wonderful images in my mind’s eye (it’s a series of hits and misses, mostly). Questioning everything! I love looking at issues from various perspectives and tossing about ideas. Wandering aimlessly just to observe the sights and smells of all that is around me is also something I love. Hiking, cycling, rock climbing duuude you name it, I'm there! But kinda out of shape now(hmm..round is a shape! :D) so don't laugh if you find me rolling on the ground gasping for air...

Random girl I met during one of the many how-to-take-your-UPSR exam clinics I used to go for who I really liked coz I thought she was a cool person and at that time I was a shy, reserved person so I was thankful to have someone to talk to. She lured me away from my friends (weeell.. more like casual acquaintances but heck, I was 12 and who likes going to these things alone?) with the promise of food so grabbed lunch together at Friday’s coz the food they gave us sucked and after laughing at so many random things, got offended together when a dumbass waiter called us kiddos coz nothing brings people together more effectively than laughter and a mutual so-called “enemy”,  I never saw her again and kindamaybe forgot about her until guess who went EH *points finger in my face* on the first day of high school? Hahaha Now we’re gonna be University mates too! Surprise, surprise!

I knew she existed about a day before we officially met in the Sixth Form. Sounds like an arranged marriage... how stereotypically Indian lol Our mums were friends as they’re both language teachers so for that reason alone I’ll admit I was slightly apprehensive about the whole hey-make-friends-with-my-friend’s-kid coz I thought we’d left primary school like 6 years ago. C’mon, mum… please. But meet her I did and we clicked immediately coz who can resist this fun lady? She’s one of those rare people that everyone is immediately drawn to. Hey, there’s a reason I call her The Charminator. Fortunately enough she was already a friend of Naomi’s so when the introductions were made I have a vague recollection of “Oh, I actually already know who you are coz our mums are friends” and me going “Ohhhh so you’re the one!!”. Yeah, Shakespeare ain’t got nothing on this love story lol

I sometimes go out and do silly things deliberately because I know no matter how mortified I am at that moment, I’ll look back and have a lifetime’s supply of laughter by the time I’m old and wrinkly. I don’t have a straight spine, cannot stand the smell of cigarette smoke (or any smoke for that matter) and alcohol, obsessed MUSE and The Beatles fan, terrified of cockroaches, sometimes pretend to be a black woman named Teana. I hate having my picture taken/taking my own picture. And I have an unhealthy obsession with the United Kingdom. I talk too much so shush me if I do. I have a neon orange slinky that is extremely hypnotizing.
 Impulsive, expressive diva.

Stalking: made easy.

Meet Charmaine

More often known as Char. I'm a flower child; lover of the wilderness, Parisian cobblestone streets, long conversations and old photographs. I believe communication and interaction between mankind makes the world go round (not to mention, love and money) and I, too, believe in long breathless laughter and the sort of warm, heavy yet somewhat relieving tears. I like telling stories of other people to other people.

Born and raised in booming southern Malaysian suburban city of Johor Bahru, a place where I am proud to call home. I came to the bustling, hectic city of Subang Jaya to get a degree
and getting it, I am currently.

I'm an aspiring photojournalist who is currently into my first semester of getting a Communications and Media Studies degree from University of Wollongong, Australia and am doing it locally at the INTI Laureate Campus, Subang Jaya.

My soul feeds on the little things like making people laugh, capturing life into moving pixels, photographs and words, exchanging conversations with people of different backgrounds and coffee in the morning. I should also mention that I have a serious case of wanderlust and a thing for maps.

First impression on Nay was definitely a good one. English-speaking Malaysian Chinese girl who hangs out with 2 Malay friends and a Punjabi and reads Seventeen? I thought Wow, this girl is practically like me! haha It was my first day at Math tuition and being the new girl and not to mention, the earliest to arrive, I just took any seat I first laid my eyes on. I guess I was trying to not look like a douche by walking around finding the 'best' seat in class. People started coming in and Naomi came up and sat beside me. Little did I know, I was actually in her friend's seat and I was in between two best friends. Great. It was awkwardness overload, nonetheless. After that class, I transferred to another tuition timing and never really saw her again until we were in sixth form.

We chatted online for a while about having to do our Form 6 in SIGS, 'cause at the time, I got the offer to do it in English College but I really wanted to get into SIGS instead. So, I transferred there after three days of orientation in EC and despite not seeing each other for around two years, it wasn't awkward at all when I met up with her at the school gate. We talked casually as if those two years didn't happen while we were walking to the hall and that was when I met Gup!

I knew of Gup's existence before I started sixth form, 'cause our mums are Bahasa teachers and her mum was blowing SIGS' trumpet when my mum told her I was doing Form 6 as well. So, when I finally met Gup for the first time at the concourse area at school, my first impression on Gup was "Soooo, this towering girl is who my mum was talking about". Punjabi, tall, skinny, bespectacled and baju-kurung-clad, I remember asking Nay whether she was the really smart stuck-up type. I'm laughing at myself now whilst I type this. After getting to know her a little bit better and realising that we have so much in common, we were basically finishing each other's sentences like destined lovebirds...okay, maybe not destined lovebirds. You get the flow lol

I grew up with a kind of non-contagious eczema called Atopic Dermatitis which is why I can't live without any sort of moisturiser. Directioner, Team Edward and a Lovatic. My ultimate pet peeve would be people who talk during an event/talk when they're supposed to be listening. And I'm terrified of cats, dogs and basically all species of animals.

optimist, down-to-earth, enthusiast.

I tweet. I instagram. I pin. I take pictures. I make videos. and most of all, I write.

xx

Meet Naomi

Name's Naomi Ng. I'm a 20 year old that will be studying Economics in the University of Malaya(UM). I'm of Teochew descent, Malaysian Chinese. I believe in Jesus Christ and I grew up listening to Westlife. That's basically me.

As army-ish as this question sound, I'm not in the army haha I'm currently based in Johor Bahru, where I was born and bred. However, I will be moving to Kuala Lumpur in less than a month. Many things I'm going to miss, so it's a bittersweet feeling, but I'll get through it.

Currently, it's my goal to fly across the seas, over to the land of the eagles...and I mean the United States :) Sponsors will be very much appreciated, but that'll be a dream only since I'm not like a famous blogger haha I've been wanting to visit the US for a long time, then came my boyfriend, which gave me more reasons to head over there.

Hmm...probably travelling(not so much of a backpacker though), visiting specialists(LOL) and girly stuffs like cosmetics and clothes. This is actually one of my least favourite question. As sad as it sounds, I don't have a particular interest...at least that's what I think. I like what I like. I don't quite have a passion for anything just yet. I didn't grow up dreaming to study Economics, I can't read or don't appreciate arts(eg. drawings at an art exhibition), I'm neither a computer geek nor a gamer, I don't love insects. I can't pinpoint my interest, so if possible, don't ask me this because it throws me in a 'lost mode' when I see other people have a passion for something and I don't, and that sucks! This is also why it was so hard for me to decide on my Bachelor program...

Here's some history. I got to know Gup when we were both in Standard 6(2005), during the Phase Two of 'UPSR Clinic'- a program where tips and techniques on answering exam questions were shared. Gup was sitting next to me with her other friends and I was friendless. Somehow, I began talking to her and got her to fill up a page in my biodata book(we all had one, if not more at that age haha). By lunch time, we were friends! I treat her to some snacks at TGIF, we shared a meal- Chicken Fingers which was yummy and had a waiter wearing a zebra print fedora call us kiddos.

I met her again during our school, SIGS' Form 1 orientation, just outside the hall. I called out to her but she seemed to have forgotten me O.o After that, I think she regained some memory and we've been friends since, whether or not we're in the same class :)

First impression: She's tall..and she has friends. Time to snatch her away from them LOL

Here's how I knew of her existence. I went for Mr. Gobi's maths tuition from Form 3 up to Form 5. One day in Form 4, Meat(my friend)'s seat next to me was taken by a newbie! I slid right into my seat, next to her, not knowing what was going on. Meat came in late and had to seat at the next table and we exchanged eye signals and wondered who this newbie was. The following week, this newbie, Charmaine sat somewhere at the back with her friend. "Ahh, so her friend wasn't around during her first class, no wonder she wasn't as lost now", I thought to myself. Soon after, I didn't see her much as we chose different days to attend, but every now and then, if I had to go for the Friday class(I think), I'll see her and we'd say hi. Funny enough, I don't remember why I'd always acknowledged her presence though I didn't know her hahaha Guess it's because she sat next to me once LOL

At the end of Form 5, I saw her South Africa trip photos on her Facebook and decided to comment on it. From then on, we chatted a few times. Before entering Form 6, I found out that she was also going for Form 6, but at English College(EC) and I just had to rope her into SIGS! And sooo, I did hahaha From then on, it's Gup's turn to meet her :)

First impression: New girl must feel awkward, seems like a nice girl!

I like wearing dark colours. I dislike any form of noodles. I don't dance...even when no one's looking. I have two pillows which I refer to as my babies, funny enough, the "younger" one is bigger than the "older" baby hahaha

I have a Facebook account, but I don't add people I don't know. However, you're welcomed to follow me on these sites below...and Interpals(haha).

Clean, fussy, reserved

HELLO!

09:55 Charmaine W 0 Comments

Three Black Widows is a cluster of everything under the sun, from real life experiences to pop culture, curated and documented by three best friends! As we’re all starting University, we figured the focus of the blog right now would be campus-life-centred but no worries, we’ll sprinkle in a couple of cool stuff like the hippest sites and bites, people of interest, top lists, how-to's, new product tryouts and sometimes, some of our thoughts will be written down too..some deep shiznits. All that just so our readers get a feel of who we are as individuals and as a group, as well as get to know a bunch of stuff. Yay, education! haha Though, don’t be surprised if our blog evolves as we grow. 'Cause ultimately, it's a blog about our lives, at its peak and at its lowest point.
A blog about growth and belonging.

We are Naomi, Charmaine and Gurpreet from the southern coastal city of Johor Bahru, Malaysia who loves living it up and spreading happiness to the world, one random act of kindness at a time. Simply put, Nay's the voice of reason, always keeping us in check. Char's always out-and-about and up for anything. Gup's the humourous diva with a whole lot of brain. We all met during Pre-University two years ago and clicked instantly! Nothing could tear us apart ever since. Not even a massive chainsaw. No joke.

Well, we were all single at the time (Gup and Char still are *wink*) and we were having One of Those Days where all three of us were lamenting on why on Earth are three, awesome, not-ugly-oklah-I'll-admit-quite-pretty girls perpetually single? And since 'spinsters' sound hilariously hopeless, we involuntarily came up and stuck with Black Widows who 'kill our men' haha (Info: Black Widow spiders kill their mate. Like Praying Mantises…holy hell I’m glad we never named ourselves Praying Mantises haahaha)

Charmaine, our awesome discoverer lady found a blog where these three friends had a shared blog so that kind of lit up a light bulb in her head and she pitched this idea to us, we liked it and after months of tossing ideas like you’d toss salad, badabing, badaboom, here we are! :D

Well, we don’t recall ever being married (unless we conked out of our own wedding and had it done in Vegas or something… in which case: cheebs..), being bitten by a radioactive Black Widow spider or being a part of the Avengers sooo we're gonna have to go with no.
Not married, not widows.

Hope you'll enjoy reading what we have to say as we bring you on a roller coaster ride through our lives, as much as we enjoy sharing it with you :)

3BW.
